Open Studios-Open Head

I'm freaking about open studios this weekend. I feel like my fellow artists hate me, but I know that is stupid. I hate low self esteem...
Anyways, I've been doing some great stuff and now have to get that onto paper which is I guess the process of doing art. Making things speak for you or of you at least. I wasn't good at expressing myself through music.
I'm posting stuff later today that are actual drawings so bear with me **rowr**
Cheers all who read, and Cheers to me for posting
:>)

Katrina Ramble

I've seen the coverage and what sticks with me most are the words being spoken by some very elite people.
  • Barbara Bush is saying how nice it is for the poor people to be evacuated from their homes as they are being treated so nicely now in the 'Domes. ASSHOLE!!!
  • The FEMA director Brown, was saying how the victims needed to take responsibility for themselves now--a classic blame the victim game.
  • Dennis Hastert says we should just bulldoze all of New Orleans.
  • Even now Bush Jr. is relying on his PARENTS to help him out. I hear a lot of things that basically sound like this, "Don't talk bad about my son." You know, it really puts my mind at ease to know that the POTUS still isn't off of his mother's teat--and I bet she doesn't even support public breastfeeding initiatives.

Hey poor people in LA, Eat the Rich!!! They are very fatty and tasty.

Success

This is an excerpt from Heather Havrilesky interviewing Alan Ball on his work in general and Six Feet Under in particular.
This quote got me, as Alan Ball is an amazing writer with a beautiful portfolio of work and yet he sounds like me who is a struggling and insecure writer/artist who has almost no portfolio...(italic emphasis is mine)
H.H.:
Sounds like you're secure with yourself as a writer, to be taking on new mediums.
Alan Ball:
There are times when I think, "Oh my god, I'm a horrible writer, this is just all some horrible mistake that happened, it's all going to become so blindingly clear." But you can't let your insecurities rule you. And also, I get bored doing the same thing over and over. I mean, I'd be lying if I said there weren't times during the run of "Six Feet Under" where I was just bored, but then that's true of my life as well, at some times, so I don't know how you can avoid that.

In a Mood, My Magic Logic Loop

Why do I get in a mood so easily? All it took was listening to like 1 minute of news (they're building a new jail for girls!--don't even get me started on how they could spend the money keeping people OUT OF JAIL) and then talking about work.
I can't take the absurdity of things sometimes. This is when studying logic does not come in handy. Gee guess what? The world isn't logical, people aren't logical, but hell, you know what? I'm trained to find logic when I see it...
I'll let you know when that happens...

Moody Entertainment

I know I shouldn't even watch these as I am too introspective and sensitive, but damn they are both good.
First one is a video by the band/group Smog. I've listened to them on Boston's WERS 88.9 FM, but didn't think I'd ever see a video. Really beautiful, and almost makes you like newscasters again...
Smog-Mother of the World
watch

Second one is the video for the song that ended Six Feet Under. It is a good song, but the video has a great format. Could be a good commercial for Polaroid.

Not a False Start This Time...3rd time is a charm

The first page is done, I think it looks great. The title of the little vignette is "Day After Day". So that'll be about 11 pages about setting up the depression, the habits, the people and situations that make for the oppressing days of working. I will work in some foreshadowing of the storyline in brief glimpses of the violent tendencies I imagine.
My new thing is that my violent imagination ends up becoming a violent reality somehow [of course I mean in the novel, okay?]--this might change, but it stems from my love of all things Tabloid, cheap, dirty, ugly, horrible 99cent store type of life in the city. Violence is agiven in any city. I feel like the only way you can change it is by making the violence more equitable in that it doesn't just stem from and attack the poor neighbourhoods. It should jump out and get richies too. Not that I hate rich people, I just resent them and at the same time want to be so comfortable that I don't have to think about these horrible things that I do.
But I figure that if I were rich, then I'd have these bad thoughts still and would eventually act on them or something. My faltering moral compass would end up going totally haywire over the strong magnetic pull of money.

Title of the Graphic Novel

Okay, it is called "Guns of the Day Job"
I hope no one thinks it is about workplace violence
Its about my own violent imagination that I have never shown to people...
It is expressed through my love of all things graphically violent.
p.s. I also love graphic sex, but I never mix the two and the violence pops up in my mind more
keep tuned, I'll post the title page by next week.
